Key Crypts
Play Key Crypts free online. Guide a little reaper through 30 handmade crypt rooms. Grab each golden key, reach the door and dodge spikes and crumbling floors.
How to Play Key Crypts
The little reaper has to escape a crypt of 30 locked rooms. Each room fits on one screen. Somewhere in it is a golden key, and somewhere else is the door. Grab the key first, then reach the door, and you move on to the next room.
Run left and right, and jump. Hold the jump button for a high jump or tap it for a short hop. That difference matters in tight rooms with spikes on the ceiling. Spikes hurt, and so does falling into a pit. Cracked brown floors start to crumble as soon as you stand on them, so keep moving. Broken floors grow back after a few seconds.
You start with five skulls. Each fall or spike costs one, and the room starts over. Every fifth room cleared gives a skull back, up to five. Lose them all and you are lost in the crypts. If you get stuck, Restart puts you back at the start of the room for free.
Each room is worth 100 points, plus a time bonus for finishing it quickly. Escape all 30 rooms and every skull you still have adds 50 more. The last rooms are mirrored night versions of earlier ones, with crumbling ledges.
Controls
Touch
- Use the big Left, Right and Jump buttons under the room. You can hold a direction and press Jump at the same time. Restart is in the middle.
Mouse
- Click and hold the on-screen buttons.
Keyboard
- Left and Right arrows or A and D to run, Space, Up, W or Z to jump (hold for higher). R restarts the room. P or Escape pauses, M mutes.
Tips and Tricks
- Look at the whole room before you move. Most rooms have one clear route, and spotting it first saves skulls.
- You can still jump for a moment after running off a ledge, and a jump pressed just before landing still counts.
- Under a row of ceiling spikes, use short hops.
- On crumbling ledges, land and jump again right away.
About the Game
Key Crypts is a puzzle platformer with a real ending. Every room is handmade and checked to be beatable with the game's own jump, so a failure is always a timing problem, never an impossible room.
The crypt is built from grey stone blocks, cracked brown floors and silver spikes, with a glowing key and an arched wooden door that lights up when it unlocks. The on-screen buttons make it fully playable on phones. Your best score is saved in this browser and can go on the Top 10 board.
Key Crypts FAQ
Does Restart cost a skull?
No. Restart puts you back at the start of the room for free. Only spikes and falls cost skulls.
Can every room be finished?
Yes. Each of the 30 rooms was tested with the game's own movement to make sure the key and the door can both be reached.
What are the brown cracked floors?
Crumbling floors. They fall a moment after you step on them and grow back a few seconds later.
How do I get skulls back?
Every fifth room you clear gives one skull back, up to the maximum of five.
