How to Play Hex Kitchen

The witch's kitchen is open, and the customers are not patient. Each witch who steps up holds out a recipe card showing a row of ingredients. Add them to the cauldron in that exact order, left to right, and the potion is brewed.

Six jars sit on the shelf: eyes, bat wings, toadstools, moon dust, bones and newt tails. Each has its own colour and its own shape, so you can tell them apart at a glance. The ingredient you need next is framed in red on the card, and a green tick marks each one you have added.

Under the card is a patience bar. It drains the whole time, and grabbing the wrong jar knocks a chunk off it. If the bar empties, the order spoils and you lose one of your three hearts. Lose all three and the kitchen closes for the night.

Orders start with three ingredients and grow to six. After the first few potions the jars begin to swap places on the shelf every four orders, so you have to look again instead of tapping from memory. Later recipes also show a spoon: that means stir, so tap the cauldron itself.

Controls

Touch

  • Tap a jar to drop that ingredient in. Tap the cauldron when the next step is the spoon.

Mouse

  • Click the jars and the cauldron.

Keyboard

  • Keys 1 to 6 pick the jars by their place on the shelf (the number is printed on each jar). Space or S stirs. P pauses, M mutes.

Tips and Tricks

  • Read the whole card first, then tap. A half second of planning beats a wrong ingredient.
  • Learn the shapes, not the places. The jars move, but an eye is always round and white and a newt tail is always a green curl.
  • On a keyboard, glance at the shelf numbers after each swap. The keys follow the shelf, not the ingredient.
  • Speed is points. Time left on the bar is added to each potion, and back-to-back potions raise a combo bonus.
  • If you slip, keep going. One wrong jar costs some patience, but stopping to fret costs more.

About the Game

Hex Kitchen is a quick-fire cooking game with a witchy twist. Customers in pointed hats, a black cauldron over red flames and a shelf of strange ingredients make it feel like a fairy tale gone slightly wrong, while the rules stay simple enough to pick up in seconds.

Each ingredient is drawn with a different colour and a different outline, so the game works for players who find some colours hard to tell apart. It plays well on phones held upright. Your best score is saved in this browser, and finished shifts can go on the Top 10 board.

Hex Kitchen FAQ

What do I do when the recipe shows a spoon?

Stir the pot: tap the cauldron in the middle of the screen, or press Space or S. It counts as one step of the recipe.

Why did the jars move?

From the fifth potion on, the shelf shuffles every four orders. A message tells you when it happens.

How are points worked out?

Each potion is worth ten per ingredient plus a bonus for the patience left, and a run of potions without a spoiled order adds up to double.

Does a wrong ingredient ruin the potion?

No. It only drains some patience. The step you needed is still waiting, so add the right one and carry on.

How many mistakes can I make?

You have three hearts. A heart is lost only when an order's patience runs out completely.
