Bell Toll
Play Bell Toll free online. Tap as the clocktower pendulum swings through the glowing mark, chain Perfect rings for combo bonuses and keep your candles burning.
How to Play Bell Toll
High in an abandoned clocktower, a great brass pendulum still swings beneath the bell. Somewhere along its path a red mark glows. Tap the moment the pendulum passes through that mark and the bell rings out over the town. Ring it, and a new mark appears somewhere else on the arc.
Inside each mark is a narrow gold strip. Hitting the gold is a Perfect and is worth three times as much as an ordinary ring. Rings in a row build a combo, and every five in a row raise your bonus, up to four times the points.
Three candles burn at the foot of the tower. A tap outside the mark snuffs one out, and so does letting a mark drift past three times without ringing it. The small dots beside the mark count those chances down. When the last candle dies, the night is over.
The pendulum is slow and the marks are wide at first. As the rings pile up, it swings faster and the marks shrink. After a while they start to slide along the arc on their own, so the target is moving while the pendulum is moving.
Controls
Touch
- Tap anywhere on the tower to ring the bell. Where you tap does not matter, only when.
Mouse
- Click anywhere on the game to ring.
Keyboard
- Space, Enter or the Up or Down arrow rings. P or Escape pauses, M turns the sound off.
Tips and Tricks
- The pendulum is slowest at the ends of its swing. A mark near the edge is easier than one in the middle, so take your time with those.
- Watch the pendulum, not the mark. Start your tap a hair early: by the time your finger lands, the brass has moved on.
- A mark you are unsure about can be skipped once or twice. You get three passes, and a wild tap costs a candle straight away.
- Listen for the soft tick at each end of the swing. It is a steady beat you can count along with.
- Chasing Perfects is worth it once your timing settles. The bonus grows faster than an ordinary run of rings.
About the Game
Bell Toll is a one-button timing game about a single moving part. There are no enemies and nothing to dodge, just a pendulum, a glowing mark and your sense of rhythm. Each ring plays a low bell note that climbs a little with every hit, and a Perfect adds a bright chime on top.
Rounds are short, so it suits a quick break. The tower works on phones held upright and on a desktop mouse. Your best night is saved in this browser, and a finished night can go on the Top 10 board.
Bell Toll FAQ
What counts as a Perfect?
Ringing while the pendulum is inside the narrow gold strip in the middle of the red mark. It scores three points instead of one, multiplied by your combo bonus.
Why did a candle go out when I did not tap?
Each mark only waits for three swings. The dots beside it show how many passes are left. Ring it before they run out.
Does the pendulum keep getting faster forever?
No. It speeds up over the first forty-five rings or so, then stays at that pace. The marks also stop shrinking at that point.
Can I play Bell Toll with the sound off?
Yes. The glowing mark and the gold strip show everything you need. The ticking can still help, though, so try it with sound once.
Is Bell Toll free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with nothing to download, no account and nothing to buy.
