Wraith Worm
Play Wraith Worm free online. Guide a hungry ghost around a crypt floor, eat soul orbs to grow its glowing trail and dodge rising tombstones in this snake game.
How to Play Wraith Worm
Deep in the crypt a wraith is starving for souls. Guide its ghostly head across the stone floor toward the glowing red orb. Each orb it swallows makes the pale trail behind it one segment longer and makes it drift a little faster, until it is racing around the room with a tail that fills half the floor.
The walls are not walls at all. Slip off one edge and the wraith comes back through the opposite side. What it cannot pass through is its own trail, and after the first few orbs, tombstones begin rising from the floor too. Bumping into either one ends the run.
Each soul orb is worth 10 points. Every sixth orb, a golden soul also appears for a few seconds. It is worth 50 points and adds two segments, and it starts to fade when time is nearly up. A new tombstone never rises directly in front of the wraith, so there is always a way out.
Controls
Touch
- Swipe in the direction you want the wraith to turn. You can keep your finger down and swipe again for another turn.
- A quick tap beside the wraith's head also turns it toward the side you tapped.
Mouse
- Hold the button and drag in a direction to turn, or click beside the head to turn toward that side.
Keyboard
- Arrow keys or W, A, S and D turn the wraith. Two quick presses are remembered, so you can make tight turns.
- P or Escape stops the wraith where it is, and M mutes or unmutes it.
Tips and Tricks
- Use the wrap-around edges to reach orbs on the far side without crossing your own trail.
- Keep big open loops instead of tight zig-zags. A long tail folded into a corner traps you quickly.
- Queue two turns for a sharp U-turn: press Up then Left, for example, and the wraith turns twice in two squares.
- Weigh up the golden soul before chasing it. Fifty points is a lot, but not if the shortcut runs into your tail.
- Remember where the tombstones are. They never move, so plan your loops around them.
About the Game
Wraith Worm puts a ghostly spin on the classic snake game for the Reaper Man Arcade. The wraith glides smoothly between squares rather than jumping, its trail glows a soft red, and the tombstones add a little graveyard strategy to a familiar idea. It plays well on phones with swipes and on computers with the arrow keys.
The speed rises a step with every orb, starting relaxed and reaching its top pace after about forty orbs. A run usually lasts a few minutes. Your personal record lives in your browser, and the top ten scores from all players sit next to the board.
Wraith Worm FAQ
Is Wraith Worm free?
Free, always. The crypt opens in an ordinary browser window, so you can start feeding the wraith without downloading anything or creating a profile.
Do the walls end the game?
No. The edges wrap around, so leaving one side brings the wraith back on the opposite side. Only your own trail and the tombstones end a run.
How do I play on a phone?
Swipe in the direction you want to go, or tap beside the wraith's head to turn toward that side.
What is the golden soul?
A bonus orb that appears after every sixth soul orb. It is worth 50 points and adds two segments, but it fades after a few seconds.
Is my high score saved?
The longest feast you manage is remembered on this device. When a run ends, the game also offers to add your score to the leaderboard that every player shares.
