How to Play Ghost Whack
Nine graves sit in a neat three by three grid, and the ghosts inside will not stay put. One at a time, then two, then several at once, they float up out of the ground. Tap a ghost while it is up to send it back down with a thump. Leave it too long and it slips away into the night.
Every ghost you whack is worth 10 points, multiplied by your combo. Four hits in a row raise the combo by one step, up to x5, and a miss or an escape drops it back to x1. Now and then a golden ghost rises. It is worth 50 points before the combo, so it is always worth a quick tap.
Not everything that rises is a ghost. Cursed bombs, round and glowing red, come up from the graves too. Touch one and you lose a life, the same as letting a ghost escape. You have three lives, and the first three seconds of every run are a free warm-up where nothing can cost you one.
Controls
Touch
- Tap a ghost to whack it. You can use more than one finger when the graveyard gets busy.
Mouse
- Click on a ghost to send it back into its grave.
Keyboard
- The nine graves match three rows of keys: Q W E for the top row, A S D for the middle and Z X C for the bottom. The number pad works too, laid out like the screen.
- P or Escape pauses the graveyard, and M turns the sound off or on.
Tips and Tricks
- Look before you tap. Bombs are round and red, ghosts are pale with a wavy tail.
- Rest your eyes on the middle grave. It is the easiest spot to see all nine from.
- Protect your combo. At x5, every ghost is worth 50 points, so a steady streak beats a frantic one.
- Golden ghosts are rare. Grab them even if it means letting a slow ghost wait a moment.
- On a computer, keep your fingers resting on the key grid so each grave is one press away.
About the Game
Ghost Whack is a graveyard twist on the old carnival whack-a-mole. The pace starts slow enough for anyone and rises over the first minute and a half: ghosts appear more often, stay up for less time, and more of them can be up together. The bombs become a little more common as well, so speed alone is not enough.
Runs are short and easy to replay, which is what makes it hard to stop at one. It plays in portrait on phones and with a mouse or keyboard on computers. Your record stays saved on this device, while the ten highest scores from all players appear beside the board.
