How to Play Crypt Merge
The crypt holds sixteen stone niches, and relics keep turning up in them. Each swipe slides every relic on the board as far as it can go in that direction. When two identical relics bump together, they fuse into the next relic up the ladder: two bones become crossbones, two crossbones become a skull, and so on through horned and crowned skulls to the Reapers.
There are twelve relics in all, shown along the top of the board. The ones you have made this run glow, and the first time you create a new one a bell tolls and its name appears. Every merge scores the value of the new relic: 4 for crossbones, 8 for a skull, doubling each tier, so the Reaper is worth 256 and the rarer relics beyond it far more.
After every move a fresh bone, or now and then a pair of crossbones, appears in an empty niche. The run ends when the board is full and no two neighbouring relics match. A swipe that would move nothing does nothing, so you never waste a turn by accident.
Controls
Touch
- Swipe up, down, left or right on the board to slide every relic. One swipe makes one move.
Mouse
- Hold the button and drag across the board in the direction you want to slide.
Keyboard
- Arrow keys or W, A, S and D slide the relics.
- P or Escape pauses, M quiets the stone and chime sounds, and Enter opens a brand new crypt.
Tips and Tricks
- Pick a corner and keep your best relic in it. Most strong runs mostly use just two directions, such as down and left.
- Build a chain along one edge, with each relic one tier lower than its neighbour, so merges cascade toward the corner.
- Avoid the direction that would drag your best relic out of its corner unless the board leaves you no choice.
- Keep an eye on the small number in each tile's corner. It shows the tier, which is quicker to read than the carving when the board gets busy.
- Merge small relics early. A board full of lonely bones is how runs end.
About the Game
Crypt Merge is a free sliding merge puzzle from the Reaper Man Arcade. It keeps the simple swipe-and-combine idea that puzzle fans love and dresses it in carved bone, candle-lit skulls and hooded Reapers whose eyes glow brighter the higher they rank. There is no timer, so you can think as long as you like.
Every relic is drawn in code, with soft stone sounds for each slide and a rising chime for every merge. The game works on phones, tablets and computers in any modern browser, keeps your personal record between visits and ranks the best crypts from every player on its leaderboard.
