How to Play Ring of Bones

The haunted carnival is open, and the barker has one game left: ring toss. Three tall posts stand on crates at the back of the stall, each topped with a little skull. Throw a bone ring so it drops neatly over a post and it slides down to the crate. That is a ringer.

To throw, press anywhere and pull back, as if you were drawing a slingshot, then let go. The ring flies the opposite way from your pull, and a longer pull throws it harder. A short dotted arc shows how the throw will start, but the rest is up to you.

The posts sway slowly from side to side, so time your throw for where the post will be when the ring comes down. The colour of each post's skull shows its value: white is worth one, pink two and gold three. Ringers in a row multiply your points, up to five times.

You have five skulls. Every miss costs one, and five ringers in a row win one back. After every four ringers a new round begins: the posts move to new spots and sway a little faster.

Controls

Touch

  • Press, pull back and lift your finger to throw. Pull down and to the left to throw up and to the right.

Mouse

  • Hold the button, drag back and release.

Keyboard

  • Left and Right tilt the aim. Hold Space or Enter to fill the power bar and let go to throw. P or Escape pauses, M mutes.

Tips and Tricks

  • A ring needs to be falling when it reaches the post top. Throw higher than the post and let it drop.
  • The pink and gold posts are tall. Pull back farther for them than you think you need.
  • Throw at a post as it comes back toward the middle of its sway, not at the very end.
  • If you clip the top of a post the ring bounces off and says so close. Aim a little more to the centre next time.
  • Protect your streak. A safe ringer on a white post keeps the multiplier going.

About the Game

Ring of Bones is a carnival throwing game with a gentle physics arc. The tent walls are striped red and black, string lights flicker overhead, and every ringer rings a little higher than the last as your streak grows. It is quick to learn and very hard to stop playing.

It is made for a phone held upright but works just as well with a mouse. Your best score is saved in this browser, and a finished game can go on the Top 10 board.

Ring of Bones FAQ

How do I aim?

Pull back in the opposite direction to where you want the ring to go, like a slingshot. The farther you pull, the harder it flies.

Why did my ring bounce off?

It landed on the very top of the post instead of around it. Only rings that drop over the post centre count as ringers.

What do the skull colours on the posts mean?

Points: white is worth 10, pink 20 and gold 30, multiplied by your streak.

How do I win back a skull?

Land five ringers in a row. You can never have more than five.

When do the posts move?

After every fourth ringer. They move to new places, and each round they sway a little faster.
